The First Congregational Church of Braintree was gathered in 1707. Seventy one families from the old Braintree (now Quincy) church secured a vote to establish a church in the South Precinct, on the bank of the Monatiquot River. Today, 301 years later, the church stands on the same grounds secured by those founding families. The members of this Congregational church have participated in the Lord's work in an active and joyful manner. A look at the history of First Congregational Church reveals several threads of service and missions that, when woven together, weave a beautiful tapestry of dedication to honor God. Involvement in mission activities have long been the standard here in Braintree, from the various women's, men's groups and youth groups. Our missions include the Braintree Food Pantry, Interfaith Social Services, Father Bill's Place, Lend-A-Hand, Indian Trails Mission, World Vision, Department of Social Services Christmas Gift Drive, and other wonderful missions in our community, our nation, and the world. With an active Sunday School and youth group with a long history of community service, we have the building blocks for developing future leaders for continuing the Lord's work. Participation in the worship life of the church and developing a vision for the future have reached wonderful heights here in Braintree and an enthusiasm for change with respect for tradition has been the focus of our future plans. As a voluntary member of the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches, the First Congregational Church of Braintree invites you to come and be welcomed, come and worship as we look to the future hearing the words of Pastor John Robinson as he watched the Pilgrims depart from Holland toward America in 1620, "...the Lord had more truth and light to break forth of His Holy Word." |
