Worship

There are many opportunities for worship here at First Church.
Sunday Services

Faith is about relationships.  The relationship that we have with God, with ourselves, and with one another. Those of us at First Congregational Church seek to nurture each of these relationships through worship.  Worship is at the heart of our congregational life.  We gather each Sunday at 9:30 as many hearts, yet one body.  Stepping out of the business and busyness of life, we come together for prayer, song, spiritual support, and contemplation.  We come to question and wonder at the mystery that is our faith.  We come to learn, love, serve, and grow.

We welcome people of all perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds.  In our worship services, we seek to strike a balance between the traditional and contemporary in our musical and liturgical style. We emphasize the importance of our children, laughter, and relevant preaching based on the living Word of God.

Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of every month.

First Congregational Church of Braintree is a member of the United Church of Christ.

Music

The First Church Choir lifts the congregation in song each Sunday during morning worship.  The Choir rehearses Thursday evenings, September through June.  Hand Bell Choir meets regularly September through June.

In-person worship

Safety protocols are in place:

  • Everyone is requested to wear a mask.

  • We ask you to maintain appropriate physical distance at all times.

  • There will be no congregational singing at this time.

Please be mindful that some church members and friends have not yet received their vaccinations.  It is important that we remain vigilant in protecting against any potential spread of the virus.  Vaccinated people, while protected themselves, can still infect others.

We will continue to live-stream our services for those of you who are not yet ready or able to return to the sanctuary.

Sunday School

First Church values the spiritual growth and development of children and youth.  Through the children's time in worship, the Sunday school program, and special family events throughout the year we seek to help our children cultivate a personal relationship with God.

Our Sunday school meets each Sunday during 9:30 a.m. worship.  The children begin in worship, listen to the Children's Message, and then are dismissed to their classrooms.

Nursery Care for younger children (Infants through age 3) is available during worship, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

We are a Safe Church, meaning that we comply with Safe Church Policy and CORI all staff and volunteers on an annual basis.
